I've always loved the defiant yet sad chorus of this song, which seems to have come over here from England, dating back to the early 1800’s. A woman swears off men (and later goes on to commit suicide by drowning herself) after she is rejected. I chose not to sing those last verses.

I Never Will Marry

One day as I rambled down by the seashore
The wind it did whistle and the waters did roar

I spied a fair damsel, she made a pitiful cry
It sounded so lonesome in the waters nearby

I never will marry, I'll be no man's wife
I expect to live single all the days of my life

My love's gone and left me, he's the one I adore
He's gone where I never shall see him no more

I never will marry, I'll be no man's wife
I expect to live single all the days of my life
